Glock 40 Concealed Carry - I have a Sig P 938 9mm trigger pull is terrible, I personally am not very accurate. I have a 2 sig p 238 in 380 auto again nice gun but not very accurate. The frame is also quite thin, so after 100 rounds at the range, my hands got tired. The Glock 27 is the first better option. It is about the same size as the p938 and is therefore very compact. Second, it's 40 caliber instead of 9mm, and third, its magazine capacity is 9+1 vs. 6+1. Fourth, I can use preloaded 15 round mags at home instead of wasting range time reloading. On top of that, the gun is very accurate at 7 yards and I can fire 15 rounds into a 3 inch circle without hand fatigue after 100 rounds. I bought a Glock G 27 Gen 3.
Lightweight and easy to conceal. Recommend the extended mag for your pinky as my ring finger gets tired after the 4th round of the mag. 4th gen w/+4 grip will probably reduce fatigue and will be my next investment.
Glock 40 Concealed Carry
As a retired LEO, I own a few guns (mostly Glocks). This is my favorite concealed carry gun of all time. When it comes to firing a pistol, the .40 caliber performs without missing a beat. I have shot SMJ and Hallow points through it with no problems. At range, this little gun has better range than my expensive Kimber 1911 .45. I mean I have feeding issues with my Kimber. The manual safety is too close to the handle, allowing any thumbs to accidentally brush against it and inadvertently engage the safety. These problems made it impossible to shoot fast live fire sequences. However, my Glock 27 has never jammed or failed under live ammo conditions. I can keep shooting while others are busy with other gun issues. I have come to trust this gun! This is something I dare not say about many other guns!

I bought a GLOCK 27 for concealed carry to get out of work. Since this is a small 40 caliber firearm, the recoil can definitely be felt. With practice and repetition, recoil can be managed. I have a small SIG Romeo RDS attached to my G27 and I find it very easy to reacquire targets after each shot. From my own experience with this gun, I recommend this setup if you have problems with recoil management (target acquisition due to recoil). For me this gun is fine for point and shoot close combat applications (self defense situations) but the red dot is definitely useful for target acquisition in tight situations if there is a short distance between me and the target. Deer are legal in my state. Okay fine? Glock 23 is legal in my state. A .40 S&W shot through at least a 4" barrel is considered deer medicine where I live. Add to that the ability to shoot .40 caliber with a carbine, and every foot-pound added to the longer barrel. Fun goes with energy.
Why mention that you can ambush deer with a .40 S&W around these parts? Because this is a powerful era in itself. His law enforcement peak may have been years ago, but that doesn't tarnish the pumpkin.

It's still a good human deterrent, and (according to my state's deer regulations) a good deer deterrent as well. Many law enforcement agencies used (or used) the .40 S&W, most notably the FBI, and before they switched back to 9mm. It has lost popularity, but the .40 S&W is still very effective. Let's take a quick look at cartridges and then review the firearm.

Where did it come from? The .40 S&W began with the FBI (with the 10mm cartridge) asked Smith & Wesson to download the 10mm cartridge. Full caliber 10mm is a real minority, so they want something else that agents can shoot effectively. S&W created the .40 that bears its name by shortening and slightly reducing the size of the 10mm casing, and the FBI adopted it. It's a lot of fun, especially if you're a forty-year-old fan. Honestly, I have never owned a .40 pistol or carbine. I have nothing against this round - it's just that I shoot, cast and reload 9mm and .45 ACP. I don't see the need to use the .40 since I have "bookends" around it on the caliber shelf. I often want to get a .40 and probably will in the future. If I do, reload the mold, then the bullet mold.

Carrying a gun that fires 400 (or more) foot-pounds of energy gives confidence. This is true, especially if the gun is small, portable, and holds a dozen or more rounds in the magazine. I think part of the failure of the .40 was that ballistic development for the 9mm bullet really took off. Also, there are some really good 9mm loads out there now that deliver the same foot-pounds of energy as the calories that Hostess Twinkies deliver.
It makes a difference that you can carry more 9mm rounds than .40mm rounds in a confined space. Take a look at the market leader in 9mm compact pistols - Glock's best-selling Model 19 - compared to other pistols. This gun is basically the same size as our Model 23, but its magazine holds two more rounds than the standard 23, 15 rounds to 13 rounds.
Here we see the same difference when we look at full-size Glock pistols in 9mm and 40, the Model 17 and 22, respectively. The Model 17 has a standard magazine of 17 rounds, while the Model 22 has 15.40 rounds.
It's not exactly earth-shattering, but it makes a difference to some people. Some have 5 round J-frame revolvers - they don't seem concerned about capacity. This can make up for a lower cartridge capacity if you know where to place your bullets.

However, looking at it another way, a .40 S&W magazine in your pistol will hold one or more rounds than a .45 ACP gun of the same size. Using the same magazine comparison as above, the full-size Glock Model 22 in .40 holds two more rounds in its standard magazine than the full-size Glock Model 21 in .45 ACP, 15 to 13.
As a .45 fan, this isn't exactly comforting news, but (as the saying goes), it is what it is. It's amazing to me that your body gun can even hold 13.45 ACP ammo, and that's not counting the extra magazines and magazines in the chamber. Capacity plays an important role in caliber selection. But the .40 is still a good choice. It's right between the 9mm and the .45 ACP, and as Goldilocks found out, the middle is probably the best place.
One thing you might not immediately think about with 23 is ability compatibility. If you bought a .357 Sig barrel for your Model 23, you now have a gun in that caliber. Your .40 caliber magazine should work since the .357 Sig is based on the .40 case.
In the worst case, the follower setting can cause feed problems, so you'll need to get a Type 32 magazine. Another caliber that the 23 is easily converted to is the 9mm. Spend about $100 for a conversion barrel and a pair of Type 19 magazines, and you're now in the 9mm business, essentially converting to a Type 19 with "23" written on the slide. So, potentially, you can buy three guns and some aftermarket parts for the price of one gun.

If the ease of changing calibers wasn't enough to make the Caliber 23 attractive, I don't know what could be. Still, it's a very interesting capability - one gun, three calibers.
A.40 will tell you that you are not shooting 22. Its recoil is often described as fast, especially among lighter pistols. If we remember that the .40 is a descendant of the 10mm. When you're pushing a 180-grain bullet south of 1000 fps, you're going to encounter some resistance.
